Sample Script Selection for a First-time VistaPE Build
Introduction

This is a sample selection of scripts for a fairly bare-bones build of VistaPE. Scripts that are selected by default are shown checked. Those that require a Vista DVD as the source are highlighted (). These can be unselected to avoid build errors if you're using the Windows AIK as the source.

Tools

Leave all the scripts in this section selected (the default).

1.1
VistaPE

Addons

No changes needed, but make note of the scripts that require a Vista DVD source.

2.1

App

The App section contains many sub-categories. Most of them are not included in the default selection. I will note a few selections I would change in a bare-bones build. I would add the 7-Zip script and unselect the Nero7 script. The a43 script is selected by default and should remain selected.

3.1

Build

No changes needed. Leave everything selected.

4.1

Debug

No changes needed. Leave everything unselected.

5.1

Drivers

Including the driver scripts will add support for more hardware. However, there are some drivers that, though included, still don't load correctly and will require being added using Mustang's AddDriver script.

6.1

Finalize

No changes needed.

7.1

Net

No changes needed, but make note of the script that require a Vista DVD source.

8.1

OtherOS

For a bare-bones build, I would uncheck everything in this category.

9.1

Shell

For a bare-bones build, I would just select Litestep for the shell. 3-explorerv will use the Windows shell. If you select multiple shells, you'll want to include the Shell-swapper option when you create the build.

10.1

Test

Don't worry about this category.

Tweaks

These scripts make VistaPE look a little nicer. They can be selected or unselected per your choice.

11.1

VirtualTest

These scripts are selected by default. However, if you're not doing constant testing of your VistaPE build in a Virtual Machine (VM), they're not needed.

12.1

The Remaining Scripts

All of these scripts should remain selected.
